Three Books in One Launch
16
February 2008 was an important date for literary as well as music enthusiasts.
In The Annexe in KL Central, an excited crowd gathered around tables set
up to sell various titles, including the three books that were launched
at night: New Malaysian Essays 1, The Old House and Other Stories, and
Kasut Biru Rubina.
Amir Muhammad has come up with a new title for his publishing house,
Matahari Books. This one consists of prolific writings by six writers
(Brian Yap, Aminuddin Mahmud, Burhan Baki, Saharil Hasrin Sanin, Sonia
Randhawa, and Amir himself). The essays, which are about contemporary
Malaysian issues, are newly written for this collection. Called New
Malaysian Essays 1, this collection would hopefully be the
first of an annual series.
Chuah Guat Eng also launched her own collection of short stories, The
Old House and Other Stories; nine stories that were written
between 1992 and 2002. Another title that was launched was Kasut Biru
Rubina by Sufian Abas.
Other highlights of the event include performances by Jerome Kugan (who
launched his CD, Songs for a Shadow) and Mia Palencia. Lastly, Bernice
Chauly read the last poem from her new collection of poetry, The
Book of Sins, which was launched in January.
